Michigan
only permits irreconcilable differences no fault divorces. The
residency requirement is 6 months but 1 year if the breakdown of the
marriage arose out of the state. Effective January 1, 1998, all
divorce, custody and related proceedings are filed in the Family
Division of the County Circuit Court, also commonly called the Family
Court. Typically a no-fault divorce will take 6 months from beginning
to end.
